What consequences may an earthquake lead to on take-off or landing? Paraphrase: What may happen in an earthquake area during take-off or landing?
If the earthquake is strong enough, it can destroy the runway. Actual shaking (horizontal, lateral) might be misinterpreted as crosswinds, or mechanical failure. The takeoff will be rejected.
It would be very dangerous if the earth subsides more than half a meter. This would put big stress on the nose gear, and depending on the speed of the aircraft would either cause sudden pitching or gear collapse. Same thing goes for landing. However before landing, the pilot would certainly feel nothing, and would not see any effects on the earth before landing. The plane would be recommended by ATC to go around, and the runway would be inspected. Maybe the airplane would be diverted to an alternate.
